Terracotta art is one of the most influential art forms, dating back to as early as 3000 BC, Indus Valley Civilizations. A number of Terracotta art and objects have been found in the dwellings of the Indus Valley Civilisation sites. Anil and Karan are part of this long chain of traditional family of Clay and Terracotta Artisans.
They received this art as a Family legacy from their forefathers, who had mastered this art more than Fifteen generations ago. All the Family members are pursuing and contributing to this ageless art.
Anil and Karan are striving to create a name of their own in this art form and have earned recognition all around. Among the notables are the State award and Kamla Devi award for excellence in Terracotta pots. The masterful cutting work in the clay pot just astonishes the admirers. Years of family traditions and new age novelty both find their places in Anil’s and Karan’s work. An electric lamp made of terracotta is an example of that innovation.
The makers of Terracotta have been proficient in woodcarving and constructing temples also. At first, they carve the wood in many designs and peculiar curved shapes and prepare the wood blocks in various designs. Later the artists press the clay on the wood designs and make a number of pieces placing them in artistic patterns.
Today we need more talents to learn this art and give it a contemporary look to preserve and promote it to modern art enthusiasts.
